چکیده
Glutathione-S-Transferase (GST) in human cells has great importance the detoxification mechanism of carcinogenic chemicals. Therefore, may be a useful tumor marker. This study examines whether GST activity Gastric cancer (GC) and Colon Cancer (CC) is helpful marker diagnosing monitoring disease course. was investigated patients with CC GC healthy individuals. Erythrocyte isolation performed 3 ml blood samples from volunteers aged 18-75 years. Hemoglobin amounts were determined standard graph drawn by conversion methemoglobin to cyanmethemoglobin presence cyanide at 540 nm. Glutathione S-transferase measuring amount enzyme that catalyzes 1 µmol S-(2,4-dinitrophenyl) glutathione formed per minute using 1-Chloro-2,4-Dinitrobenzene. The mean values activities GC, respectively; (1.28 ± 0.23 U/gHb; 1.20 0.30 U/gHb), significantly higher when compared individuals (0.59 0.13 U/gHb) (p < 0.05). colon cancer, measured as (1.56 after chemotherapy, than before (1.09 0.12 (1.53± 0.24 chemotherapy gastric value (0.97± Our results show change can used biomarker monitor course response chemotherapy.

Association between gastric mucosal glutathione-S-transferase activity, glutathione-S-transferase gene polymorphisms and Helicobacter pylori infection in gastric cancer.
AIM Helicobacter pylori infection, though common, leads to gastric cancer (GC) in less than 1% individuals, suggesting the role of host factors. We previously reported the role of glutathione-S-transferase (GST) polymorphisms, the gene encoding a carcinogen-detoxifying enzyme, in GC. This study was aimed to evaluate GST enzyme activity, GST polymorphism, glutathione (GSH) levels and H. pylori i...

BACKGROUND Overexpression of glutathione S-transferase (GST; EC 2.5. 1.18) has been documented in the erythrocytes of patients with chronic renal failure, and this event may well be of relevance from a clinical standpoint. In fact, it could serve as a marker of uremic toxicity overall, which can contribute to impair the function and survival of the erythrocytes. However, the biochemical details...
متن کاملGlutathione S-transferase activity and glutathione S-transferase mu expression in subjects with risk for colorectal cancer.
The glutathione S-transferases (alpha, mu, and pi), a family of Phase II detoxication enzymes, play a critical role in protecting the colon mucosa by catalyzing the conjugation of dietary carcinogens with glutathione. We investigated the efficacy of using the glutathione S-transferase (GST) activity of blood lymphocytes and GST-mu expression as biomarkers of risk for colorectal cancer. GST acti...
متن کاملErythrocyte Glutathione-S-Transferase Activity in Diabetics and its Association with HBA1c
The generation of reactive oxygen species is increased in both types of diabetes and is closely associated with oxidative stress. Erythrocytes are equipped with a highly effective anti-oxidant defence system. Oxidative denaturation of hemoglobin leads to the release of hemin into the RBC membrane and the released hemin is capable of oxidizing membrane proteins via a thiyl radical intermediate. ...
متن کاملGenetic Polymorphism of the Glutathione S-Transferase M1 and Development of Breast Cancer
Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are encoded by a superfamily of genes and play a role in the detoxification of potential carcinogens. The human GSTs are divided into four classes: alpha, mu, pi and theta. Previous studies indicated that the absence of the Glutathione S-Transferase M1 (GSTM1) protein correlated with an increased risk of developing some types of cancers. Association between spe...
